How to make money on OnlyFans: income streams explained
On OnlyFans, you make money when your audience pays for something of yours inside the platform: the monthly subscription, paid messages, paid posts, tips, custom content, live streams or fundraisers. None of them works on its own: they all need an audience that comes in from outside, new content on a regular basis and someone who replies in time.

How do you make money on OnlyFans? The official income streams
The money comes from what your audience pays inside OnlyFans. According to its terms of service, every payment is processed by a payment provider the platform approves; OnlyFans deducts its share, set out in the “Creator payouts” section of its terms, and the rest is added to the account balance, always in US dollars.
According to the official OnlyFans blog, a paid subscription is one of the most common ways to earn, but not the only one: some of the highest-earning creators don’t charge a monthly subscription. Separately, OnlyFans has a referral program with its own terms, which this article doesn’t cover. These are the income streams OnlyFans describes:
| Income stream | What it is | Profile type | What it takes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly subscription | Access to your feed; it renews automatically unless the subscriber cancels. | Paid only. | New content on a regular basis. |
| Paid messages (PPV) | Content that unlocks with a payment, sent to one person or to many. | Both. | Something they can’t find anywhere else; someone answering the chat. |
| Paid posts | A post on your profile with its own price. | Free only. | A preview that sparks curiosity. |
| Tips | Voluntary payments on posts, messages, live streams or your profile. | Both, with at least five posts. | A clear tip menu. |
| Custom content | Something made to order for one person. | Both. | Clear limits; delivering what was agreed. |
| Live streams | Live broadcasts with a tip goal; on free profiles, also with an entry price. | Both, once OnlyFans turns them on. | A good history on the platform; announcing them ahead of time. |
| Fundraisers | A donation goal on a post. | Both. | Explaining what it’s for. |
The subscription: what it takes to keep it renewing
On a paid profile, only people who pay for your subscription see your posts, stories or live streams; anything with its own price is paid for separately. Under OnlyFans’ terms, the subscription renews automatically at the current price unless, among other cases, the person turns off auto-renew, their payment fails or you’ve raised the price.
The OnlyFans blog sums up its advantages: it creates exclusivity, rewards loyalty and can make income more predictable. In return, it takes consistency:
- New content on a regular basis. According to OnlyFans, people are less likely to renew if they can’t count on it. The Queue lets you schedule posts for the weeks when you can’t keep up.
- Quality over filler. The same blog says it’s often better to spend more time creating less content.
- Bundles and discounts with a purpose. According to OnlyFans, a multi-month bundle rewards the people who stay; the welcome discount is for people subscribing for the first time. Neither one replaces a steady pace.
- Looking after the people who already pay: renewal is decided every month. How to do it: how to retain OnlyFans subscribers.
Paid messages: the sale that happens in the chat
A paid message (PPV, “pay-per-view”) is content that unlocks when someone pays the price you set. Any creator can send one, to one person or to all their subscribers at once. According to OnlyFans, on free profiles, making good use of paid content (messages, posts, live streams) is key.
Since it’s sold through conversation, it depends on someone replying. What makes it work:
- Content that isn’t available anywhere else. OnlyFans advises against selling what you’ve already posted for free, on your page or on social media.
- Knowing what you’ve sent: the Vault remembers which content you’ve already sent by message.
- Lists, so you can send each group what suits them: someone who just arrived isn’t the same as someone who’s been with you for months.
- An up-to-date welcome message: it’s the first thing new subscribers get.
- Replying in time. A conversation that waits for hours goes cold; if part of your audience lives in another time zone, that includes the middle of the night.
Custom content: made to order, within your limits
It’s content created for one specific person, based on what they ask for. It’s agreed on by message and paid for inside OnlyFans, with a tip from the menu or a paid message. It’s one of the most time-consuming things you do (how to handle each request is in OnlyFans custom content), so before you accept, make these things clear:
- What exactly it includes, with no room for misunderstandings.
- How soon you can deliver it.
- Whether it’s within your limits. If it isn’t, no price changes that.
- That everything is agreed on and paid for inside OnlyFans.
Live streams on OnlyFans: when you get them and how to earn with them
Live streams are an official feature, but they aren’t available from day one: according to OnlyFans, they’re added to your profile once the account has been active for a while with a good history of content that follows its rules.
After that, any creator can set a tip goal. On a free profile, a live stream can have an entry price; on a paid one, your subscribers watch it as part of their subscription. OnlyFans saves the stream to your Vault so it can be watched later; you can also go live with another verified creator, and viewers can tip one or both of you.
What does it take to make money on OnlyFans? Step by step
Before the first payment, OnlyFans has a few requirements; after that, every income stream needs the same basics:
Verify your account
According to its terms, OnlyFans asks for a valid ID with two photos of yourself and a payout method on the account. The full sign-up process is in how to start an OnlyFans from scratch; if your verification is rejected, see why OnlyFans rejects your verification.
Choose a paid or a free profile
This determines which income streams you get: the subscription on one; paid posts or live streams with an entry price on the other.
Fill your feed before you promote yourself
With at least five posts, your profile can be eligible to receive tips. An empty page doesn’t make anyone want to subscribe, either.
Bring in an audience from outside
OnlyFans may recommend profiles, but it doesn’t promise you an audience; its Creator Center suggests starting with your social media. How to do it: how to grow on OnlyFans.
Stay on top of the chat
Paid messages and custom requests are sold by message. No reply, no sale.
Measure what sells
In your statistics, “Overview” breaks down what comes in from subscriptions, posts, messages or live streams. Change one thing at a time.
What not to do: mistakes that cost you money or your account
Some shortcuts look like quick money and end in refunds, subscribers who don’t come back or a closed account:
- Selling what you already gave away for free. OnlyFans advises against it for paid messages; anyone who recognizes it will think twice before buying again.
- Sending something different from what you described: OnlyFans’ terms require your content to be as you describe it.
- Closing deals outside OnlyFans. Its terms, together with the contract between subscriber and creator, govern what’s paid on the platform; anything paid off the platform falls outside that framework.
- Advertising your page with Google Ads or similar search engine ads: OnlyFans’ terms prohibit it.

ApplyWhat’s the best way to make money on OnlyFans?
There’s no single answer. According to the OnlyFans blog, a paid subscription is one of the most common ways, but some of the highest-earning creators don’t charge one: they earn from what they sell on their page. It depends on your audience: the “Overview” tab shows what each income stream brings in, so put your time there.
How much can you make on OnlyFans?
There’s no number that applies to everyone. What comes in depends on how many people reach your page, how many of them renew and what sells in the chat. From every payment, OnlyFans deducts its share before adding the rest to the balance. Your real numbers are in the “Statements” tab of your statistics.
How long until OnlyFans earnings become available?
According to the Creator Center, earnings first go into the pending balance; in its example, they move to the current balance a week later at the earliest. The timing and the methods vary by country.
If your bank rejects or blocks the paymentHow much of each payment does OnlyFans keep?
A fixed share of every payment, which OnlyFans deducts before adding the rest to the account balance. The exact figure is in the “Creator payouts” section of its terms of service, which has the final word. Any applicable indirect tax is added to the subscriber’s payment; the bank the money goes to may charge currency exchange fees.
Do you have to post explicit content to make money on OnlyFans?
It isn’t required. According to its Creator Center, OnlyFans has creators who focus on cooking, music, beauty or comedy. What matters most, according to its blog, is offering something people can’t find anywhere else and posting consistently. You decide how far your content goes; if you work with a team, put it in writing before you start.
Can an agency guarantee my income on OnlyFans?
No. OnlyFans’ terms say the platform isn’t responsible for any promise that a creator will make money; nobody can promise you that without knowing your audience or your content. What a serious agency can give you is its work in writing: what each side does, your limits and how to leave the contract.
