How to start an OnlyFans from scratch
To start an OnlyFans from scratch, you need to be 18 or older, verify your identity with a valid ID plus two photos of yourself, and add a payout method. Before you post anything, decide your limits. The hard part comes later: building an audience, answering the chat at any hour, watching for leaks and reporting what you earn.
Here’s each step, backed by the official rules, along with what it takes to do it on your own.

What do you need to open an OnlyFans account?
Less than you might think. According to the OnlyFans Terms of Service, to open a creator account you have to meet these requirements:
- Be 18 or older and able to sign a legally binding contract.
- Be legally allowed to use OnlyFans and have no convictions for serious crimes.
- Upload a valid ID along with two photos of yourself.
- Add a bank account or other payment method, plus how you want to receive your money.
- Set your monthly subscription price, or make it free, and upload the content your subscribers will see.
- Provide any extra information they ask for, which can vary depending on the country you live in or your nationality.
How to open your OnlyFans account step by step
The order matters: what you set up before you sign up saves you trouble later.
A new email address
Create an email just for this, with a password you don’t use anywhere else.
Choose your username
Make sure it doesn’t lead back to your personal details: not your full name, your neighborhood or your job.
Verify your identity
Upload your ID with your two photos. That puts the account in your name.
Add your payout method
A bank account or payment method, plus how you’ll withdraw your money. Depending on your country, they may ask you for more information.
Price and first posts
Decide whether your subscription is paid or free. Upload your first posts before you start promoting your page: an empty page doesn’t convince anyone.
Is it free to open an OnlyFans? How getting paid works
The OnlyFans terms don’t set any fee for opening an account. OnlyFans makes its money another way: it keeps a share of every payment you receive.
Three more details. All payments are in US dollars, so your bank may charge you for the currency conversion. To withdraw, you need to reach a minimum balance. If someone gets their payment refunded, OnlyFans can take back your share of it.
How do you protect your privacy and your limits before posting on OnlyFans?
Some decisions nobody can make for you. Make them before your first piece of content, not once there’s already a problem.
- Your limits in writing. What you create and what you don’t, what gets answered in messages, what’s off the table even if someone asks. At Luzara Talent, our chatters, the people on our team who handle your chat, respect the limits you set in writing.
- Nothing that shows where you live. Check the background of every photo and video: the street outside your window, your front door, an envelope with your address. According to its terms, OnlyFans isn’t responsible if someone else posts your personal information without your permission.
- Unique passwords with two-step verification. Spain’s National Cybersecurity Institute (Instituto Nacional de Ciberseguridad, INCIBE) recommends a different password for each account and two-step verification whenever possible. That way, if someone steals your password, it isn’t enough: they’re still missing the second step, like a code sent to your phone.
- Your originals saved, with their dates. If you ever need to ask for a copy to be taken down, they’ll help you prove the content is yours.
How do you get your first OnlyFans subscribers?
Opening your page doesn’t bring an audience on its own. The usual route is to promote it on social networks like Instagram, each with its own rules (you’ll find them summed up in the table): breaking them can cost you the account.
Two shortcuts to avoid. Buying followers: Meta’s rules ban buying or selling engagement such as followers or likes. Running paid ads for your page: the OnlyFans terms don’t allow promoting it with Google Ads, similar ad platforms or search engine ads.
| Social network | What it allows | What running it on your own takes |
|---|---|---|
| Instagram and Threads | Under Meta’s rules, nudity and sexual activity are removed; very suggestive content is shown only to people 18 and over. | Posting content suitable for all audiences every day, with the risk of your account being restricted or shut down if you push it too far. |
| TikTok | It doesn’t allow nudity or sexual services. Suggestive content is age-restricted and kept out of the For You feed. | Frequent videos, suitable for all audiences, so people who don’t know you yet can find you. |
| X | It allows adult content if you mark it as sensitive, but never in your profile photo, header or live videos. | Turning on the content warning for everything you upload, looking after the account, linking your page without spamming. |
How much time does OnlyFans take?
If you go it alone, a lot more than the time it takes to create content. You also have to plan, edit, post every day, answer messages and watch for copies. The chat doesn’t close at night or on vacation. It’s easy to burn out before you see results, not for lack of drive but for lack of hours.
With Luzara Talent, the workload is shared differently. On Full Management, your part is creating content with our team’s weekly guide: a couple of hours a day is enough. If you already have an audience and only want to hand off the chat, there’s the Chatting Premium plan, and you keep running your own social media.
Does OnlyFans protect you if someone copies your content?
Not entirely, and it’s worth knowing before you open your account. The OnlyFans terms say the platform isn’t responsible if your content is copied and posted somewhere else. It can send notices on your behalf, but it isn’t required to do that or to keep watch for copies; its complaints policy explains how to report a copy on another site.
The usual route is a DMCA notice: a formal request to each site hosting the copy to take it down. According to the U.S. Copyright Office, it has to identify your work and each link, include your contact details and your signature, and contain two statements: that you believe in good faith the use isn’t authorized, and that the information is accurate. In the second one you state, under penalty of perjury (lying there is a crime), that you’re the owner or are acting on the owner’s behalf. It takes persistence: one site, one notice, one follow-up.
On Full Management, our team searches for your leaked content and, when it finds it, starts the process to get it removed: it reports every copy with a DMCA notice. Nobody can promise it will all disappear, not even us.
What about taxes when you start on OnlyFans?
They’re your responsibility. Under the OnlyFans terms, by using the platform you commit to reporting what you earn to your country’s tax authority (in Spain, the tax agency, known as Hacienda). OnlyFans doesn’t advise you on this.
The rules change from one country to another: the basics for Spain, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina and Chile are in our article on OnlyFans taxes. From your first month, keep track of what you earn and what you spend; if your situation is complex, talk to a tax advisor.
On Full Management, our team gives you tax information and recommendations adapted to your case. It’s guidance: you file your own taxes, with your advisor if you like.
Is it a good idea to start OnlyFans with an agency?
You don’t have to, but if you’re starting from scratch, a good agency can save you from learning by trial and error on your own account. The real question is how much of the work you can keep up yourself.
With any agency, check the basics: that it doesn’t ask you for money upfront or for passwords before you sign, that it gives you the conditions in writing and that the account stays in your name. You’ll find ten more questions in what an OnlyFans agency does. Here’s what starting with Luzara Talent, based in Barcelona, Spain, looks like:
You fill in the form
From your phone, in two minutes. When you send it, your WhatsApp opens with the message already written.

ApplyCan I start an OnlyFans with no followers?
Yes. OnlyFans doesn’t require a minimum number of followers. The hard part is bringing an audience to your page. On Full Management, our team works on that with the phone farm, from agency accounts on Instagram, TikTok, Threads and X; on the first three, only content suitable for all audiences.
When you open your OnlyFans, do you have to set a price?
No: the OnlyFans terms let you set a monthly price or none at all. With a paid subscription, each subscriber pays to see your page. With a free one, anyone can subscribe without paying, and income comes from separate paid content, like what you send by message, or from tips.
Free vs paid OnlyFans: which account is right for you?Does anything change if I open an OnlyFans in Spain or Latin America?
The steps are the same: 18 or older, identity verification, payout method. Depending on your country or your nationality, OnlyFans may ask you for extra information; the rules for reporting what you earn also vary from one country to another. Everything is paid in US dollars, so your bank may charge you for the currency conversion.
Can I open an OnlyFans at 17?
No. The OnlyFans terms require you to be 18 or older and able to sign a legally binding contract. OnlyFans can also ask you again for proof of age or identity whenever it wants. At Luzara Talent the rule is the same: we only work with creators aged 18 or over.
Can I advertise my OnlyFans on Google?
Not with ads. The OnlyFans terms ban promoting your account with Google Ads or any similar ad platform, including search engine ads. The usual route is to get the word out on social media: every link to your page has to follow the OnlyFans terms, and also the rules of the network where you post it.
What happens if I don’t report what I earn on OnlyFans?
You risk losing your account, on top of any consequences under your country’s law. According to its terms, if you don’t meet your tax obligations, OnlyFans can close or suspend your account, or limit your withdrawals or your earnings. If you’ve gone a while without reporting it, talk to a tax advisor in your country as soon as you can.
